Six brands give six different answers about linen, each one aligned with what that brand happens to sell, and almost none of them cite a source. We have no steamer to protect, so the fabric guide says plainly which fabrics take steam, which are ruined by it, and which one is better served by an iron — with the fiber reason for each.

We have not tested these steamers

Everyone in this category opens with a version of “we tested twenty units”. We have not tested any. Nobody sent us one, we did not buy them, and there is no lab behind this site. We would rather say so than pretend otherwise.

What we did instead is narrower and completely reproducible. We read the published specification off every product’s own listing and recorded where we read it. We dropped the figures that turned out to be data errors — a runtime filed under heat-up, an item weight filed under tank capacity — and said which ones were missing rather than filling them in. We worked out what each machine costs to run, with the electricity price cited. Then we scored what remained against a rubric that is published in full, so you can check the arithmetic yourself.

None of that tells you how a trigger feels after an hour. For that, the publishers who genuinely buy and test are worth your money, and we link to them rather than paraphrasing their results.
